φ Phi is...

Although there is no standard rule to define what is a good or beautiful design, there is a mathematical approach that can help us get one step closer to create a captivating and visually pleasing design - the Golden Ratio.

Obviously, we are not a mathematician but we'll try explain in the easiest way. The Golden Ratio is a special number that approximately equals to 1.618. The ratio comes from the Fibonacci sequence, a naturally occurring sequence of numbers that can be found everywhere, from the number of leaves on a tree to the shape of a seashell.

The Golden Ratio exists when a line is divided into two parts and the longer part (a) divided by the smaller part (b) is equal to the sum of (a) + (b) divided by (a), which both equal 1.618. The figure shows the formula:

In other words, φ Phi is the relation between two or more objects. If we have two lines, one line is 1m long and the other one is 1.618m. Thus, it can be proved that these two lines are in a golden relation.

If we look into the details, we will discover the incredible world through peering the φ Phi.
